Maryville City Council discusses 9-1-1 consolidation project

The Maryville City Council heard a report on the 9-1-1 consolidation project with Nodaway County during last night's meeting. City Manager Greg McDanel says the project is progressing.

"We were able to obtain bids for joint 9-1-1 equipment to have those conversations with the county about partnering with that equipment purchase.  And we were pleasantly pleased the bids came in several hundred thousand dollars cheaper than we anticipated.  So we are now able to continue this negotiation and talk about how both organizations can come to some sort of consolidation effort and better the community."

McDanel adds construction on the new public safety facility helps in the process of making the 9-1-1 consolidation a possibility.

"Consolidation study recommended that a joint dispatch facility would be located at the new public safety facility.  We are constructing the site and the timeline for consolidation works out perfect actually that we could move new equipment into that facility should we be able to reach a deal that benefits the entire county."

The Maryville City Council also approved a franchise agreement with Kansas City Power and Light during last night's meeting.
